Wow, thanks to everyone for the input. First, for those who suggested i fix it myself, i would've loved to do so, and in the past i've spent countless hours in my garage, getting my shop manual all greasy - but unfortunately since relocating i no longer have any place where i can do much more than an oil change. I've been pleased to find that there seem to be a number of Z enthusiasts in SoCal who would be interested in buying the car as is, and fixing it themselves. I was hoping that would be the case, but didn't know what to expect. So, i will probably go that route. If you've e-mailed me, i'll try to get back to you individually in the next couple of days.
